What's Up

Last Friday night, I went to Jurong Point and met up with Wan Ling and Chin to buy the Adam Lambert concert tickets! For those of you who don't know, there is a Sistic outlet at JP at the Oasis Lounge, which is on the 2nd floor of the "old" Jurong Point near Carl's Jr! Hope that helped! :)

Because we were early birds, we got a $10 discount! Whoots :D Pays to be early! Jiamin had texted me beforehand that she and her sister had got seat number VC1 and VC2 so I tried to book VC3 and 4 for Chin and I but unfortunately they were taken so we just got VC 5 and 6. Hopefully we can swap seats with the Glamberts sitting at VC3 and 4!

I was trying so hard not to jump up and down from excitement after I got my hands on the tickets! After that Chin, Wan Ling and I went to the MacDonald at the park near JP and had our dinner there. Then we walked about in the park and talked about serious issues like heartbreak and all. LOL.

In other news, the play that my lit class is going to do for drama fest has been decided already and so has the cast. I am one of Peter Pan's lost boys...no comment. Can't imagine myself dressing up as a boy in all green.

Also, the NAPFA training has started and I was supposed to run 2.4km this Monday so last Sunday I went to the gym to improve my stamina. I think it worked but gotta train more. Sigh. :(

For those who haven't heard any of Adam Lambert's songs, here you go:
Just one of his songs. Hope you liked it! :) Btw Vampire Weekend (a band) is performing in Singapore today! :D Steph's going for the concert! Hope she has fun ^^

Got a lot more to blog about but I am too tired. Shall blog again tmr or during the weekend! toodles~

Guess who's coming to Singapore?

I mentioned in my previous post about a Singapore duo called Trick who just exploded onto the Singapore music scene this year with their song BPM! Well, I follow them on Twitter and they follow me back. Just last week they told their fans that they are interested in performing in schools for their fans! So OF COURSE I suggested to them that they come to JJC! And they replied me saying that as long as our teachers give the thumbs up, they will come! So needless to say I was uber excited!

The first teacher I approached was Miss June. She told me that Ms Choo is in charge of arts performances in school during assembly and coincidentally she is my PE teacher. So I approached her immediately with regards to this issue! I got Trick's email and gave it to Ms Choo and asked her to check them out on YouTube! :)

At first things looked hopeful but a few days later she told me that she had checked them out already and they were "very pop" and in schools they want to expose us to things not so mainstream =.=' AND it had to be approved by our VP too, and the chances are very low of the VP accepting a pop group! Gone case~ NEVER MIND.

Another thing I wanted to rant about is the fact that Adam Lambert, one of the singers I most look up to, is coming to Singapore in March and I might not have the money to buy the tickets. >< (NO heart to ask parents and I don't save) The only hope is that Darren offered a loan! LOL, future banker. :D And lifesaver! I promised I would return it back to him by Dec! Hope he helps me out or I'm gonna miss Adam Lambert's concert and who knows when he will come back! Chin is working now so probably Chin can use the money earned to go to the concert too! *fingers crossed*

Now about school! I probably failed every test that has been thrown towards me so far...physics, maths and even GP! @.@ I feel so bad. WHAT AM I DOING WITH MY LIFE? Ok shall go off now! Time to sleep! Nights~

1st week of school + Open House

Okay, time to blog about how the first week of school went. I thought I'd die on the first day of school 'cause I hadn't completed my long list of homework but turned out the teacher's were quite understanding about it. During chemistry tutorial on the first day, we met our new tutor, Miss Xu, and she's actually quite good at explaining concepts. :) I like her!

We also met our new GP teacher on the first day. She's called Mdm Pathrose and she came from Pioneer JC. Nice name eh? She is good I guess, but a bit stern. I can see that the class already misses Mr Shermann.

On Monday, I also met up with my co-host for the Open House for the first time, Keith. I was worried that I wouldn't be able to talk to him but he turned out to be a really friendly guy. :) Plus, he watches X Factor too and is a Cece fan so bonus points for that :DD

PE on Thursday nearly killed me. Ran three rounds around the track after not running for nearly 1 month. Physics lesson on Thursday was good too because I finally feel like I am beginning to understand the concepts! So overall, the first week of school was good.

Open House:

I went to school at 8.15am to meet up with Miss June Chng and Keith at the General Office and for the first time I went into the office store, where Keith and I took turns to make announcements over the PA system.

At 11am we went to the canteen to host the cultural performances by our JJ symphonic band, guitar ensemble, Chinese Orchestra, Indian, Malay and Modern dance. Personally I think the dances were really impressive. I could watch their performances again and again and not get bored.

Shout out to Fuxuan for doing a great job with Modern Dance! Here's a photo of me and her:
Love her outfit!
Also, I really look up to Shamira for doing such a great job with the Indian dancers despite the fact that her body was aching like crazy after PE. My body was aching too and I can imagine the amount of strain her muscles were feeling. You go girl! :)

Saw many Fuhua juniors there, which totally made my day. Vanessa said that she went to the Open House just to see me. Awwww!

I enjoyed my first emceeing "job". Hope to get more opportunities next time as well :D Thanks Miss June for choosing me! I have really learnt a lot from this experience! ^^

Also, please check out this song by Trick. They're a Singaporean duo but they sound as good as any American singer! Giving us Singaporeans something to be proud of! :)

That's all for now! Toodles :)

WHY JJC?

I am sure that the sec 4s have gotten their O Level results by now! Heard that my alma mater, Fuhua Secondary School, produced 29 students with raw scores below 10 points! :) Congratulations to my juniors! :) Hope to see some of them at Jurong Junior College's Open House tomorrow! I'll be emceeing and making the announcements over the PA system so even if you don't see me you will definitely hear me! :)

Why I Blog

People have various reasons as to why they blog. Some blog to relieve their stress and anger on an online platform, some choose only to blog about controversial issues such as politics etc. Many blog to inspire others, usually only focusing on positive stories. Then there are others who turn blogging into a business. For example, being a beauty product endorser or fashion advertiser etc. Even food bloggers can earn money.

I, meanwhile, blog for none of the reasons above. I blog because I want to keep a record of the things that I have done and so that my friends can read it and know what's going on in my life; since we can't meet up so often due to our busy lifestyles. If the stuff going on in my life inspires the readers, that's bonus points for me. However, sometimes I do share my posts on FB, when I feel that people may be able to relate to that post.

The other day I was feeling sad because my blog only has 6000+ views so far. But then I realised that they only reason I feel sad is because of the competitive nature in me. My friends' blogs have way more hits than me! Then I reminded myself that "Hey, you started the blog for you and your friends and it's enough that THEY read it!"

That being said, I have a huge pile of homework remaining which I better get back to! School resumes on Monday! Toodles~

Reflecting on 2012 + journey down memory lane

I have already done my New Year resolutions in the previous post. Time to really reflect on the past year.

At the beginning of the year, I was working at Sheng Siong as a cashier with my friend Judy. It was tough, really tough. I know people think being a cashier is only about counting money, but boy are they wrong. I got scolded by the older cashiers for being too slow and holding up the queue despite the fact that I was new, I had to promote the products on offer while zapping the barcodes of the customer's purchases, and if I accidentally zapped the same product twice, I needed the supervisor's card to undo it. Sometimes I had to stand there and wait for the supervisor to come and the customer would give me dirty looks. Once, my fellow young colleague, Darren, even got into a tiff with a customer when the customer accused him of giving off the "ah-lian" or gangster vibe when Darren was actually a very nice guy. Worse still, I was a cashier during the Christmas, New Year AND Chinese New Year period and as you all know, Singaporeans were buying off the whole shop. One counter made up to $30000 in sale in ONE day and we have 3 counters. So you can imagine the amount of work we cashiers had to do. Moreover, it was a standing job. Standing up for 10h a day is no joke. At then end of the day, we had to go up to the office and count the money and make sure everything tallied. I once lost $30 due to my carelessness and my supervisor paid it for me. I was touched and very scared too. I realised this job is not for me. However, I learnt a lot from this job and the pay was totally worth it too. My respect for cashiers in such big supermarkets has increased because now I know that it's not such an easy job after all. Also, I wouldn't have lasted a day without Judy. Thank goodness she was there to support me when I just wanted to quit the job!

After I quit the job, the O Level examinations results were released and I remember crying my eyes out in the hall when I received my certificate because it was below my usual standards. I had never been so disappointed in myself. But I dried my tears and promised myself that I won't let history repeat itself.

Then it was time to choose my next destination: either a junior college or a polytechnic. My first choice was actually Ngee Ann Poly's Mass Communications but unfortunately I didn't get in because I was one point away from the requirement. So I ended up in Jurong Junior College. Although I didn't go to my dream school, I no longer regret coming here. I think the pressure here is manageable, as compared to the pressure I am sure my friends from ACJC and TJC feel since they are better schools. I also think my class got really good teachers.

I joined the guitar club, and although I quit in June, I had already learned a lot! I am glad I got the chance to learn the guitar. :) I quit because I was having trouble managing my time and decided to prioritize my studies over extra-curricular activities.

I also joined Drama this year. Although I was not part of the cast, but rather I was the lighting crew, I learnt a lot from this experience about the importance of hard work, determination, and team work. JJC had never got a silver or gold for drama SYF but this year we got Gold with honours and that's something to be really proud of!

I also joined this Emceeing course with a few of my friends and it was a really cool experience. I got closer to many of the other emcee wannabes. And our coach, Mr Rishi Budharani is awesome!!
Thanks to this course, I will be emceeing for the upcoming Open House. I really appreciate this opportunity. :) Also, I came out of my shell more during this course.

Other fun things I did include going for Pink Dot 2012 with some of the drama peeps and Chin. Glad I brought Chin there, think he need to feel that gays aren't as discriminated in Singapore as he initially thought they were.

One thing I am not proud of is screwing up my common tests. I did really badly and my mom had to attend the Parent Teacher's meeting. Sigh. I did so badly that if I didn't pull up my grades by the End-Of-Year exams, I would have to retain. But I pulled up my socks and pulled my grades up in time! Still no As though :/

Also, I watched a lot of plays this year. Twelfth Night, Othello, Gods of Carnage, and 4sterhome. I absolutely love to watch plays! I don't think I'll be watching any in 2013 'casue I am supposed to be studying 24/7 but after the A Levels I definitely will!

Before Justin left for the UK, I went ice-skating with him and other friends. I am glad he invited me because I had never ice-skated in my before and it's always good to try new things! :) Albeit, I fell down and injured myself. -.- My leg was swollen for weeks (because I refused to see the doctor). No regrets though!

When the holidays started, the literature students and I had a literature retreat. I picked up lots of skills regarding acting and thoroughly enjoyed getting closer to the other lit students. A few days after that I went to watch PSY's first concert in Singapore with Chin! Oppa Gangnam Style! :D Had fun!

I also went on "Jalan Raya" at my class girls' houses and that was really fun! ^^ Ate a lot of festive delicacies >< That pretty much sums up my year. Overall it was pretty fun and eventful and I met great people like An in Drama! :)

But if there is something I learnt this year, it's the fact that not everybody is going to like you. Someone will have a problem with the way you are. If a lot of people share the same opinion about you, yes, maybe you should change. But if it's just this one person, who shouldn't change yourself for him or her. Once in a while, you gotta stand up for yourself. This is the way I home, you either accept it, or eff off from my life. Simple as that :)

Also, there is this ex school mate of mine that I haven't talked to in ages, Rabi. He recently talked to me on FB and showed me this video. Oh my gosh, it is so inspirational. You guys should really see it. Here it is:

I should probably watch this video every morning. To all my poly and JC friends, all the best with your studies in 2013. I am sure you will do well!

Ps. I am also glad that Yong Lay and I seemed to have gotten over our misunderstandings in sec 3/4 because he's the only one who watches the same shows I do and knows so much celebrity gossip. I'm glad I can talk to him abt that now. ^^ He's a nice guy :)
